Polar Express (Special Holiday Screening)

December 10 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

The Mendocino Film Festival has announced a special holiday screening of Polar Express. In partnership with the Skunk Train and Coast Cinemas, the Mendocino Film Festival will bring a day of holiday cheer to Fort Bragg with this heartwarming film and photos with Santa. Proceeds will benefit the Mendocino Film Festival.

The day begins at 10:00 am, when children will have the opportunity to share their holiday wishes and take photos with Santa in the lobby of the Coast Cinemas. Then, children and adults alike will embark on a fun seasonal adventure when the film begins at 11:00 am. The film follows a young boy who doubts the existence of Santa but finds reason to believe as he discovers much about the world and himself during the course of a magical train ride to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.

‘“Tis the season!” says Mendocino Film Festival Executive Director Michael Fox. “This is my favorite time of year. We are delighted to partner with Coast Cinemas to bring the joy of film and family and the spirit of the season to our community.”

Tickets are available online at MendocinoFilmFestival.org, by phone at (707) 937-0171, and in person at the Coast Cinemas and the Skunk Train Depot.

A Christmas Treasury of Song II

December 18 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

It’s that time of year again when family and friends gather to watch, listen and participate in Song. Directors Laura Leigh and Don Krieger bring an artful group of singers together to perform Christmas favorites.  A live child nativity will act out and sing “Away in A Manger”, a must see for all.  These talented children ages 5-13 present a moment that began with the birth of Jesus.

Also a choir will perform “Twas the Night before Christmas”, a musical rendition of the famous poem by Clement Clarke Moore. Included will be Dayle Farina, Teo Ariola, Haidi Calkins, Jeremy Crockett, Pat Wilson, Sam Parsons, Jennifer Spangler, Kim Ghezzi, Eric and Karen Wilder.  Also each will sing a traditional Christmas Solo.

We focus on celebrating the holidays with this concert which is kid friendly and so a short program is planned.  Everyone is welcome!

Santa will be there to listen to the children’s wishes and hand out candy canes.  Brownies and cookies from Art Edibles and hot chocolate and apple juice donated by Gualala Arts will be offered in the foyer after the show.  Community members will donate goodies also.

This event is sure to be a fulfilled celebration of Christmas Joy.  Bring the family and meet your friends at the Gualala Art Center, Coleman Hall for “A Christmas Treasury of Song II.”

Tickets

Tickets are $12 for adults $6 for youth (12-17) in advance, $5 more day of event, children under 12 free.

For advance purchase, (coming soon) visit Brown Paper Tickets  or them at call 1-800-838-3006.

Nine Lessons and Carols

December 24 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

| FREE

Following the form in which it has been offered each year since 1919 at King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, England, the Nine Lessons and Carols will again be presented at the Gualala Arts Center auditorium this Christmas Eve.

The audience joins in singing the nine carols: some old favorites, some new. Clergy and lay readers represent several of the coast faith communities: Mary, Star of the Sea and St. Aloysius Catholic Churches of Gualala and Point Arena; Light of the Coast – Science of Mind Center, Gualala; St. Paul’s Community United Methodist Church, Point Arena; Shepherd by the Sea Episcopal – Lutheran Mission, Gualala; Christian Science Community, Gualala and Sea Ranch; Starcross Community, Annapolis. In addition several of our coast community children and youth will contribute to this well-loved tradition and celebration, along with a special guest or two.

Seating at the Gualala Arts Center is limited and traditionally fills up. You are encouraged to plan ahead, arrive early and bring a flashlight for your safe walking to and from parking areas around the Arts Center.

Donations received at the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols go to support South Coast Crisis Aid (also known as South Coast Crisis Line). These donations are the primary source of funding for SCCA. Your generosity supports emergency food, fuel, bus transportation and lodging assistance throughout the year via vouchers distributed by local clergy and by Action Network in Gualala and Point Arena. Please make your checks out to Shepherd by the Sea, with “South Coast Crisis Aid” in the memo line. Thank you!
